Good News (with a Twist)

We SAVED the JAMS! (and...)

Hey, you guys, this is George and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the generosity you have shown in supporting Mid-City's jams program, especially in the recent weeks of intense fundraising. I'm so impressed and delighted; it's hard to express.

To recap, because MCCM didn't get some expected funding, they needed to cut back spending in a hurry. But rather than cut the jams, which they love as much as anybody does, they fired up the "SaveTheJams" campaign.

I want to apologize--It was hard for us to communicate to you clearly during some of this fundraising. I'd like to blame the eclipse! But in reality, it was more due to the complexity of the problem space. We were asking for a tremendous amount of money ($3,000/month in recurring donations) to be raised in a very short time (within a month of our fundraising kickoff). We weren't sure we could even afford to do that fundraising, so we set a shorter goal of $1,000/month recurring in 10 days.

Result:

$1,993 Fundraising Total

$670.87 / $1,000 recurring monthly

A wow of a number, raised in just two weeks...not enough to allow MCCM to continue to run the jams.  But does that stop us?  NO--BECAUSE WE ARE AMAZING!!

At the end of the day, the verdict is "Good News With a Twist"

The Good News: With the tremendous generosity you showed, we will be able to continue the jams program for now, and hopefully get ourselves to a point of solid sustainability beyond that. You can expect continuity--no significant changes to time, place, quality, personnel, all of that!!! Take a minute to feel good about yourselves, people.

The Twist: As an organization, MCCM needed to raise money fast to run the jams. But as an individual, I'm in a position to be able to move more slowly. So by adjusting the organization of the Jams Programs a bit...well, it's a work in progress, but watch this space for news about MCCM's newest enthusiastic community partner, George's Jam Ashram!

Your SaveTheJams donations so far will continue to support the jams, and as we grow our base of recurring donations over time, MCCM's partnership with George's Jam Ashram will create a sustainable and ever-improving jam ecosystem. Until we get details further sorted out, you can continue to support this vision with your recurring donations. If you have any questions or issues about your donations so far, touch base with me at george@sdcommunitymusic.org

That's all for now. Keep on JAMMIN'!!

Instead of just leaping into the old songbook as we do at the other MCCM Monday jams, we’re giving top priority to your latest explorations:

-Original songs

-Songs you’ve worked out

-Musical things you’ve been working on

If you plan to lead a tune or two or three, it would be extra cool if you’d bring charts so folks can play along.

Even if you aren’t planning to lead a tune, bring your instrument as always, because it’s MCCM, isn’t it? And for this showcase, the audience can play along without disturbing the performer!!

And because we all need to relax, feel free to just bring a smile and open ears.

HOORAY FOR THE INTERNET!!

See y’all then!!!
